What
is this project all about?
Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI) has developed a partnership
with Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck Research Center to develop
cultural and educational exchanges between East and West.
The Teacher Ambassador Program is designed to recruit
teachers that will teach for one or two semesters in Zhenjiang,
China, and return to the U.S. with first-hand knowledge
of the rich and diverse Chinese culture.
Zhenjiang is located in Jiangsu Province, the eastern
part of China where the Yangtze River intersects with
the Grand Canal. The 3000-year-old historical city is
an attractive tourist location with many cultural opportunities.
Foreign scholars, businessmen and explorers have lived
and worked in Zhenjiang, including Marco Polo, the Italian
traveler who served as the local magistrate in the Yuan
Dynasty, and Pearl S. Buck, winner of both the Pulitzer
Prize and Nobel Prize for Literature, who lived and taught
in Zhenjiang for 18 years.
Teacher Ambassadors will follow in Pearl S. Buck¡¯s footsteps

to the United States with an intimate knowledge of regional
